We’re excited to share a live, in-studio version of Bill Monroe’s instrumental “Foggy Morning in Morehead” that we did at Reverb & Echo Studio. Fans of the band may remember it as the missing “10th” track from our last album Crocodile Man. Here’s backstory:
Bill never recorded this number and, as far as we know, the tune is only known now through a single low quality bootleg recording from the late 1980s. When David discovered this recording on a mandolin-related Facebook page, he dusted it off and created an exciting new arrangement for the band. We liked it so much, we recorded it for our Crocodile Man album but it never made it on the record.
We discovered that we couldn’t legally license the song because it was never officially published/recorded by Bill. After consulting with mando great Mike Compton, who has experience recording unreleased Monroe tunes, we decided to leave the track off the album and just play it live.
We’re proud of this live version of the song and hope you enjoy it!!
