Jump Start Your Fiddle Workshop — February 9, 9-5pm

On February 9, I will be teaching a clinic for classically trained violinists who are learning (or are interested in learning) how to play fiddle.

As a classically trained violinist/bluegrass fiddler, this is a topic near and dear to me. I’ll be giving lots of practical pointers on making the transition from classical music to fiddling as well as discussing improvisation and making music beyond the printed page.

This clinic is part of an all-day workshop for beginning fiddlers called “Jump Start Your Fiddle,” which will be happening at Crossings of Brookwood (6201 North Lilac Drive in Brooklyn Center).

John Wallace will also be teaching a clinic for beginning old-time fiddlers. Lynn Dixon will be teaching a clinic for beginning fiddlers who already play other old-time instruments.

There will be a mock fiddle contest in the afternoon, and Carol and Jim Price and Michelle Schettler will be there to answer any questions you might have about preparing for and competing in fiddle contests.

Admission: $30 whole day; Mock Fiddle Contest only: $10.
