Bluegrass Weddings with The High 48s

The High 48s are award-winning, nationally recognized bluegrass musicians who have also played dozens of weddings. We know how to get the crowd going. We know how to get your stoical uncle and your too-cool-for-school teenage nephew out onto dance floor…at the same time! And we also know when to step back and just provide a little bit of atmosphere for the evening.

As important, we also know how to make our part of the evening worry-free for you. We show up when we say we will, dress to the nines, bring and set up all our own equipment and put on a memorable show—all at a very reasonable price.

And we’re a traveling band, so we can bring the bluegrass wedding to you, whether your wedding is in the Twin Cities, greater Minnesota or the Upper Midwest.

High 48s Wedding Packages

Ceremony Music – Over the years The High 48s have worked with many couples to put together a program of music that fits the mood of the ceremony, whether it’s a formal church wedding or a casual walk through the grass in a city park. We’ve played wedding ceremonies both as a full, five-piece bluegrass band and as a duo (banjo and fiddle) or trio (bass, guitar, and fiddle or mandolin). And in addition to bluegrass and old-time music, members of the 48s can play jazz, classical, traditional Irish, Scandinavian, Russian and Jewish music. We love hearing your ideas and working with you to create the perfect soundtrack to your walk down the aisle.
Cocktail Music - The High 48s are often hired to provide background music during the cocktail hour. Our cocktail set tends to be a little more low-key and heavier on instrumentals, including tunes from outside the bluegrass genre as well as traditional tunes played at a more relaxed tempo. Acoustic string band music is perfect for the cocktail hour. It’s a unique alternative to the traditional jazz or lounge trio and never so loud that your guests will have to convey their congratulations to you in their outdoor voice!

Wedding Reception – Ever wonder how to get the guests to stay late at your wedding reception? Hire a bluegrass band. Bluegrass music has cross-generational appeal, from the younger crowd who were exposed to bluegrass through bands like Trampled by Turtles and the Yonder Mountain String Band, to the thirty-and-over-crowd who were exposed to bluegrass by artists like Gillian Welch or might have heard the many great bluegrass bands that have graced the stage of A Prairie Home Companion. Bluegrass is high-energy music that will get everyone on the dance floor and instantly set a festive, upbeat mood for your reception. And unlike a loud rock band or a DJ, a bluegrass band won’t drive half your guests out of the room or have them frantically stuffing bits of cocktail napkin in their ears!

Wedding Square Dance – The High 48s often work with a square dance caller and instructor who is a master of crowd control.  A square dance is a great way to get your guests onto the dance floor after dinner. If you have a painful memories of being forced to square dance to scratchy records during phys ed, put those memories to rest — this is something different, this is the real deal.
