We’re excited to once again be on the faculty for the MBOTMA Bluegrass Jam Camp that takes place the week prior to the Minnesota Bluegrass & Old-Time Music Festival at El Rancho Mañana in Richmond, MN!
From August 4-6th we’ll be helping pickers of all ages form bands, learn to jam and prepare to play LIVE on stage for a recital at the end of the camp.
Each member of the band will also teach group lessons on our respective instruments and the whole band will put on mini-clinics on topics such as harmony singing, jam etiquette, playing live around one microphone, stage presence and MCing, and more!
The cost for the three-day camp is $95 before July 15th and $120 after that date. Pre-registration advised. Class size limited to 12 students per instructor.
To register call 1-800-635-3037 email to firstname.lastname@example.org.

The 48s just got done giving two presentations at two different schools — one at Skyview Elementary in Oakdale and the other at Richardson Elementary in North Saint Paul.
We’ve been giving these history-of-bluegrass presentations for a while now, but lately we’ve been doing them more than ever. And not just for kids.
We’re making them a bigger part of what we do because they’re so much fun and audiences love them, and when we open our mouths to talk about this music, we rediscover a lot of what drew us to it in the first place….its history, and its connection to American music writ large (jazz, blues, gospel).
And it also reminds us just how amazing it sounded the first time we heard a guitar, fiddle, banjo, mando and bass working well together.
It’s good to reconnect with that every now and then. It’s what inspired us to put in the long hours of practice time and to drop the needle on all those old records, over and over and over.
We’re very excited to announce that we’ll be teaching at the Minnesota Bluegrass and Old-Time Music Association (MBOTMA)’s Grass Seeds Academy again this spring.
Grass Seeds is a weekend-long jam camp for kids that’s held in conjunction with MBOTMA’s Winter Weekend bluegrass festival at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Plymouth, MN. We’ve been teaching at Grass Seeds for years now, and we’ve seen some really fantastic young bluegrass musicians develop and connect with each other and even form bands, some of which are now regulars on festival stages around the Midwest. This is something that every MBOTMA member should be proud to support. We certainly are!
It’s all happening the weekend of February 28 – March 2. For more info, visit the MBOTMA website at:
